Hikers take on volcanic trek to support hospice

The walkers are heading to Iceland to raise money for a hospice

A group of hikers is taking on the dramatic landscapes of Iceland to raise money for a hospice.
The nine walkers will trek 36 miles (58km) across the volcanic highland region of Landmannalaugar – over lava fields, past hot springs and waterfalls – to fundraise for St Margaret's Hospice in Somerset.
Louise Wonham is taking part with her two sons. She said she wanted to give back to the charity after it supported her husband Mike, who had cancer.
"He died at home nearly four years ago," Ms Wonham said. "St Margaret's were there for me and my two sons. Taking on this challenge is my way of honouring him and supporting the hospice that supported us."
Anne Smith, another one of the hikers, said: "We have to roll up our trousers and cross over rivers which will be interesting, some of us are shorter than others."
She joked: "I'm not looking forward to the hot spa on Sunday before we are coming home.
"In all seriousness though, it's an amazing thing to do. It may not be much that we raise but every little bit counts."
Also taking part in the three-day hike is Hayley Milne, head of communications at the hospice.
She said: "It's meant to be one of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet but it comes with its challenges.
"It's going to test my fitness to the max but I'm very excited.
"I can't change someone's diagnosis, but I can help ensure they're supported at their most vulnerable moments."
