A highways team has defended its decision to partially repaint a bus stop road marking.

Road users in Burnham-on-Crouch near Southminster, Essex, noticed the sign at St Mary's Church, Church Road, which had faded.

However, highway teams at Essex County Council had only partly painted back over it.

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said crews were only equipped to reinstate surfaces they had "physically disrupted".

“The repair job at the bus stop on Church Road was carried out by a member-led pothole repair crew to address an issue that was important to local residents," they said.

"Each crew is only equipped to reinstate the surface that they have physically disrupted."

The spokesperson added in order to maximise resources, the council scheduled repairs so multiple ones in the same area could be conducted at the same time.

"This maximizes efficiency and is a more cost-effective use of taxpayers’ money," they added.

A crew will be back out in the next week to repaint the rest of the road markings, according to the spokesperson.
