North East Lincolnshire Council says it needs to be told about any events for safety reasons

A local council is requesting organisers of public bonfires notify them of this year's plans in advance.

North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said it needed to be told about any events due to safety reasons, or it could "end up putting others at risk".

Humberside Fire and Rescue would be actively encouraging people to attend public displays and ensure they are safe and enjoyable, the council said.

Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: "We all enjoy watching a marvellous fireworks display, but event organisers must take lots of things into account before planning an event, including notifying the council."

He added: "We are here to help event planners to ensure their event is safe and enjoyable for the public."
