Several teenagers were arrested after five children and one adult were injured in a suspected air rifle shooting in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said four boys, aged seven, 11, 13, and 15, a seven-year-old girl and a 62-year-old woman were left injured after the incident on Richmond Park Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

Three of the injured children required hospital operations to remove a pellet, the force said.

A 15-year-old girl, two boys aged 15 and 16 and two 18-year-old men were held on suspicion of possession of a firearm and causing grievous bodily harm, with all released on bail.

Police said officers were called to the Handsworth area of the city following reports of a shooting at about 14:25 BST.

Officers appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to make contact.
