Schoolgirl in serious condition after crash

A schoolgirl has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car.
The incident happened in Hythe at about 18:45 BST on Thursday and involved a 14-year-old girl and a white MG3.
The car was travelling along the A326 towards Calshot. A police spokesperson said the driver stopped at the scene.
The headteacher of Hounsdown School, David Veal, said their "thoughts and prayers" were with the girl and her family.
Mr Veal said the school had been informed one of its students had been in an accident.
He said students had been spoken to and offered support, as well as parents and carers being contacted to "ensure they were further able to look after any young person worried or upset by this news".
Mr Veal added: "The thoughts and prayers of the entire school community are with the young person, their family and friends at this time.
"As their headteacher, I thank the students, staff, parents and carers for their kindness and sensitivity at this difficult time."
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is urging any witnesses to come forward to assist with its investigation.
A force spokesperson said: "The girl has been taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
"The car involved stopped at the scene and the driver is assisting us with our enquiries."
