A road in Hull is expected to be closed for seven days following a burst water main, the city council has said.

The pipe failure has caused a temporary closure in the Wincolmlee area between Oxford Street and Cumberland Street.

There is a two-way diversion in place and Hull City Council has advised people to avoid the area.

Yorkshire Water said that while the water supply for businesses and houses have not been affected, the company "appreciates that the traffic diversion may cause delays and disruptions".

A spokesperson added: "Our teams are working as quickly as possible to fix this.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank everyone for their patience."
