A main road in West Hull has been closed to vehicles because of a burst water pipe.

Hull City Council said Willerby Road eastbound was expected to be shut until Monday.

The work is taking place between Hotham Road South and County Road South, heading into the city centre, near No 240.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said the main burst on Thursday night and was repaired during the early hours of Friday morning, "but there is some damage to the road surface which requires repair before reinstatement can take place".

The spokesperson added: "Our teams are on site carrying out this work. To do this safely, a section of Willerby Road will remain closed over the weekend.

"A diversion is in place and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The road remains open to cyclists and pedestrians.
