Patients at a North Yorkshire hospital have been moved to other facilities due to a lack of heating and hot water.

Selby War Memorial Hospital was "experiencing problems" with a faulty boiler on Friday and engineers have been on site fixing the issue.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said it had also taken the precaution of temporarily closing the urgent treatment centre.

A spokesperson said: "We have robust plans in place to deal with disruption to services like this, and we are working closely with our staff to ensure we continue to provide safe care for our patients."

'Safely relocating patients'

The trust said some outpatient appointments had been postponed but would be rearranged as a priority.

But it urged anyone with an appointment to attend as planned unless they are contacted to rearrange.

The spokesperson said: “While the building is safe, to ensure we can continue to provide safe care and comfort for our inpatients, we are safely relocating them and we are contacting families directly to let them know.

"We appreciate this may be frustrating for our patients affected and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
