Plans for up to 220 homes and a new primary school in Barrow-upon-Soar are set to be given the go-ahead.

Charnwood Borough Council's planning committee has been recommended by planning officers to approve an application for a new development on land north of Willow Road in Leicestershire.

According to planning documents, there would be a "broad mix" of house types and 66 homes in the proposed development have been classed by the developer as affordable housing.

Documents submitted by the developer Bloor Homes said the application would meet the needs of the local population.

The report prepared for the committee, which is due to meet on 28 October, states approval of the application would be subject to a legal agreement which proposes the applicant contributes towards local infrastructure and services.

It adds the agreement would bring "substantial benefits" to the area, including upgrades to the medical practice, road and public transport improvements, as well as the construction of a new primary school.
