Rescue dog helped by charity 'needs forever home'

Akita Lucy Lou needs a "happy" home where she can play with her toys, the Dogs Trust said

A rescue dog who was found in a "terrible state" before having her life turned is looking for her forever home, a dog-rehoming charity has said.

Ten-year-old Akita Lucy Lou arrived as a stray at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in April and was diagnosed with entropion, where the eylids role inwards, causing discomfort to both eyes and impacting her vision.

Following medical treatment, the dog struggled to settle in kennels but began a "real transformation" when she was placed in a foster home, the charity said.

"Lucy Lou quickly became house trained and started showing her loving side, greeting everyone with a happy waggy tail and enjoying life," a spokesperson added.

'Love to give'

Emma-Jane Thomas, from the organisation, said Lucy Lou's "terrific transformation" was almost complete.

She said the dog was suited for a "peaceful home" where she could take rural walks.

"All Lucy Lou needs is a happy, loving retirement home where she can play with her toys and relax in the sunshine," she added.

"As one of our older residents, Lucy Lou may be a little bit long in the tooth, but she still has so much love to give.

"We have no doubt she will be a great companion for someone and see out her retirement in the style she deserves."

Dogs Trust Kenilworth added it was looking for more more volunteer foster carers to support them by temporarily opening their home to a dog in need.

The charity is currently caring for 133 dogs, including seven "golden oldies" like Lucy Lou, who were searching for their "forever homes".
