Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man fell to his death from a fourth floor balcony.

The 57-year-old was found at about 20:40 BST on Sunday after falling from Black Friar Court apartment building in Salford, Manchester.

A man, 37, and a woman, 40, were both arrested on suspicion of murder, Greater Manchester Police said.

The pair were held in custody for questioning and the scene remained cordoned off, the force added.

Investigation

The man who fell was declared dead in hospital after he was taken there by emergency services.

Police were speaking to residents at the scene and were conducting "extensive CCTV trawls" to find out how the man lost his life, a police spokeswoman said.

Det Insp David Ogden appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

"Please don't assume that what you know is already known to us," he said.

"The smallest piece of information may be crucial to our investigation and towards getting answers for this man's family."
