Coffee pods and corks used to make Christmas tree

An outdoor Christmas tree has been made from materials collected from beaches and items saved from landfill.

The tree, which was put up on the cafe terrace at La Vallette Bathing Pools, Guernsey, was created by the Vive La Vallette team, the Clean Earth Trust and other volunteers.

It was made from coffee pods, disposable cutlery, corks, rubber ducks and fishing wire.

The Vive La Vallette team said it was celebrating Christmas "with a more sustainable, lovingly crafted tree".

Volunteers said they were "deeply committed to caring for the island's environment"

Vive La Vallette said the work had been taking place on Tuesday evenings after an appeal for contributors.

"We had a loose plan, but we allowed ourselves the joy of playing with the materials to see what might emerge," the team said.

"Both charities are deeply committed to our community and to caring for the island's environment, and we always welcome involvement from anyone who'd love to join in."
