Eight recycling tips are to close temporarily so a local authority can carry out essential maintenance and deep cleaning.

Dorset Council is closing each household recycling centre for two days during October so that the work can be carried out safely.

The council said residents could use any of its other centres as an alternative during the closures, or keep hold of their waste until their local site reopened.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank everyone for their understanding while this essential work is completed," it said.

The closures are as follows:

  • Sherborne – 7 - 8 October

  • Shaftesbury – 9 -10 October

  • Wareham – 14 -15 October

  • Wimborne – 16 - 17 October

  • Swanage – 21 - 22 October

  • Blandford – 23 - 24 October

  • Bridport – 28 - 29 October

  • Portland – 30 - 31 October
