An armed man threatened staff and stole money from a North Yorkshire pub, prompting a police appeal.

The man, who was carrying a knife, entered the Golden Lion in Ripon on Friday at about 17:40 GMT and demanded for the till to be opened.

He then fled from the pub on Allhallowgate with a "quantity of cash", North Yorkshire Police said.

He is described as a white man in his mid-20s with a ginger beard and a teardrop tattoo under his left eye.

The force said he was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, navy jogging bottoms, black gloves and white trainers.

Det Sgt Tom Barker said he hoped the "distinctive" description would help identify the wanted man.

"This type of incident is rare, however they do leave a lasting impact on victims," he said.

"As such, we are doing everything we can to ensure this suspect is arrested as soon as possible and brought to justice."
