Train services in Kent and Sussex are still facing disruption following flooding on the railway on Monday.

Network Rail engineers were unable to complete full repairs to part of the signalling system around Wadhurst overnight, National Rail said.

Southeastern Railway said an hourly train service would run between Hastings and Tonbridge all day on Tuesday.

The operator said it was unable to run a full service on the Hastings line and that disruption was expected until the end of the day.

Southeastern said: "On Monday morning, Network Rail were made aware that part of the signalling system had failed around Wadhurst.

"Upon investigation they found that heavy rain had partially flooded the railway."

Passengers were advised they could use their tickets at no extra cost on some Southern, London Underground and Southeastern highspeed services.

Heavy rain and subsequent flooding on Monday caused traffic disruption across the South East including on other train lines and the closure of an M25 slip road which had flooded.
