Bus shelters across part of Kent are to have digital advertising screens installed, a council has said.

The overhaul of 37 shelters along bus routes in Folkestone, Hythe and the Romney Marsh will also include improved seating and reinforced windows.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council (FHDC) said the upgrades were "an enterprising initiative" to modernise facilities and encourage more public transport users.

The authority added that advertisements on the shelter's digital screens would provide "guaranteed income" for the council.

The work will be carried out by Bauer Media Outdoor UK, which will also oversee maintenance and manage advertising at select locations agreed by FHDC.

Polly Blakemore, cabinet member for transport, regulatory services and building control, said: "This enterprising initiative will not only modernise our shelters but also encourage residents and visitors to use our bus services."

The improvements are separate to the Folkestone - A Brighter Future Scheme, the authority said.

The new-look shelters are expected to be installed by the end of 2025.
