Police have released a CCTV image of a person they want to trace after a man was attacked with a hammer.

Nottinghamshire Police said the victim, aged in his 40s, was sitting in his car in Bramcote Lane, Wollaton, at about 11:00 BST on Saturday when a man unknown to him approached him and accused him of causing damage to another parked car, which he denied.

The man was then attacked with a hammer, and suffered injuries to his hand and mouth, the force said.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage that may assist officers has been urged to contact the force.

The man depicted in the CCTV image is wearing a green top and shorts, aged about 40 and with a receding hairline, police said.

PC Jessie Knott said: "This was an unprovoked assault and we are doing everything we can to find the person responsible.

"We appreciate that the quality of the image we're releasing today is not great but at this time it is the only one available to us."
