A man has been arrested in relation to threatening messages being sent to school settings on social media, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers arrested a man in Exeter on Thursday, on suspicion of malicious communication offences and they are "not seeking anyone else in connection to this matter".

Officers said news of the offences had "circulated amongst the community" and "increased police presence may have caused concern".

The force said on Friday the man remains in custody and asked that people "do not speculate about this matter online due to the ongoing investigation".

Ch Insp Chris Conway said: "Following a report of concerns regarding threats made towards school settings via social media, officers have made an arrest."

He said: "At this time we do not believe that any schools had been attended and there were no injuries."

Local officers will be out on foot patrol on Friday, and available to speak to anyone who may have concerns.
