Recruitment starts ahead of airport reopening

FlyDoncaster is recruiting for key roles at Doncaster Sheffield Airport
- Published
Recruitment has started for three "pivotal" roles in preparation for the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA).
FlyDoncaster, a company set up by City of Doncaster Council to run DSA, is seeking a head of general aviation and cargo, a head of fire rescue and emergency planning, and a head of assets.
It comes after nearly £160m was allocated to revive the airport on the former RAF Finningley site, which closed in 2022.
South Yorkshire Airport City director Christian Foster, who is leading the programme to reopen DSA, said: "These jobs are vital to manage the comprehensive, technical, regulatory and legal operating requirements of an airport."
The head of general aviation and cargo will lead the development of the cargo and freight service ensuring safety, compliance and efficiency, as well as managing the day-to-day operation.
The head of fire and rescue will be responsible for delivering the on-site emergency service, ensuring the airport has robust emergency plans and procedures and rapid response if required.
The head of assets will oversee the management of the site's infrastructure, buildings, equipment and land, including the development of the site, ensuring the airport meets sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.

Passengers will soon return to Doncaster Sheffield Airport
Mr Foster said: "City of Doncaster Council is focused on delivering the airport.
"We now need to get the right people in place starting at the top tier in the executive structure.
"Each of the roles, as expected at this level, require high-level expertise and a significant track record in delivery and experience."
The closing date for applications is the end of September and recruitment will take place immediately after where possible, with latest start date in early 2026.
This will be the first tranche of recruitment with more jobs to be advertised in the future.
Freight operations are expected to start in 2027, with a fully operational airport planned for summer 2028.
