A former Liverpool councillor has been charged with harassing a woman who received insults and threats in the post.

Gerard Woodhouse was arrested in August following a police investigation into reports that a female Labour councillor had received cards containing insulting and threatening messages.

Mr Woodhouse, who served as a Labour councillor between 2010 and 2022, has been charged with harassment without violence, Merseyside Police said.

The 62-year-old, of Mayfair Close in Anfield, has been released on bail to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on 24 October.
