A man who was caught using a drone to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into a prison has been jailed.
Police were called to HMP Highpoint near Haverhill, Suffolk, to reports of drones flying over the prison in the early hours of the morning in April.
On arrival, officers found Kai Fraser, 25, of Rivulet Road, Tottenham in London, with a drone and a large package of drugs and mobile phones attached to it.
He later pleaded guilty at Cambridge Crown Court to attempting to smuggle the items, and he was jailed for 26 months on 29 September.
In the early hours of 24 April, police carried out extensive searches near the prison and located Fraser in a field, nearly half a mile away.
As well as the drone and package, he was seen holding the drone's controller before he fled.
After a foot chase through the fields, he was arrested, and an investigation was carried out.
PC Scrivener of Suffolk Police said "to get this result is very satisfying".
"Incidents of this nature will always be treated as a priority by response officers and should act as a warning to anyone else considering a similar activity," they added.
The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs, mobile phones, the drone and its remote control unit.
