A woman remained in hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car that was then driven off, police said.

The victim, in her 30s, was hit by a black Ford Puma on Nelson Road Central near the junction with Bath Hill Terrace in Great Yarmouth at 23:00 BST on 8 August.

Norfolk Police said the driver initially stopped and got out of the car but then drove away without reporting the incident.

A man in his 20s was later arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle-taking, failing to stop, causing serious injury by careless driving, driving without a licence or insurance and drug-driving. He has been released on bail until 11 September.

Detectives have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to contact them.
