NHS managers have said they are making "very good progress" in finding a site for the new Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust said 17 potential sites were being considered, all within five miles of the existing hospital, built in 1974.

In January, the government committed to investing more than £1.5 bn in a new 800 bed acute hospital to replace the existing buildings which were made from reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac).

The new hospital will cover more than 1m sq ft (304,800 sq m).

The trust said it would be "a cutting-edge facility with single rooms, centralised surgical services, advanced digital technology, and net-zero carbon initiatives".

It said it remained on target to begin building work between 2028 and 2029, with the first set of plans due to be submitted to the government in the next few months.
