An historic cinema building has been put up for sale.

Hollywood Plaza, in North Marine Road, Scarborough, is on the market for £150,000.

Originally opened as a silent cinema in 1914 the building was converted into a car garage in 1926 before being put back into use as a cinema in the 1980s, according to agent CPH Property,

Joe Walker, director at CPH Property, said he was fielding offers from three or four independent cinema operators to ideally keep its use the same.

"We are selling the building rather than the business," Mr Walker said.

"However, the agency and the client both hope to keep Hollywood Plaza as a cinema, it just needs a refurb and refresh."

Several independent cinema operators have expressed an interest in the building

The single-screen cinema was restored to its original purpose when the owner's father acquired it more than 40 years ago.

Although keeping it as a cinema was preferable, CPH Property's listing said it could "suit a number of alternative uses".

These include another leisure operation or potentially a redevelopment, subject to planning permission.

Bids for the building were asked to be returned by 27 September.
