New Piccadilly line trains are about to be rigorously tested before they are introduced next year

A new Piccadilly line train has been vandalised on its way to a depot in west London, before it had taken its first test run.

The train had only arrived in the UK hours earlier from a factory in Germany when it was sprayed with graffiti on Monday morning.

It is believed to have happened at about 06:45 BST in the Latchmere Junction area of south-west London. The train has since been cleaned and driven to its depot, Transport for London (TfL) said.

British Transport Police said it received reports that several carriages of a train had been vandalised and inquiries were ongoing.

It is among a new fleet being manufactured by Siemens that is to undergo a period of rigorous testing on the London Underground network before being introduced for passenger use in late 2025.

The fleet of 94 trains, some of which are being manufactured in the north-east of England,, external will be fully air-conditioned and more accessible.
