A middle school has been temporarily closed due to staffing issues.

Parents of children attending Danesfield Church of England Middle School in Williton, west Somerset, were made aware of the closure in an email on Monday evening.

In it, Beacon Education, which manages six academies, said the closure was due to staffing issues in "key management positions".

In a statement, a spokesperson for the school, said the closure was "not a decision taken lightly" but was necessary "to ensure the wellbeing" of pupils and staff.

An email seen by the BBC said the closure was down to "absence of staff in key management positions"

"We apologise profusely to everyone impacted by this short notice," they said.

They added: "Arrangements are being put into place to allow the school to reopen on Monday, 8 July so our pupils and our staff can return to the classroom and enjoy their end of term together," they added.

As a result of the closure, all school trips planned for the coming days have been postponed.
