Lincoln Castle and the city's crown court were shut and evacuated after what police said was a "threat to public safety".
The court building, which is within the castle grounds, was evacuated shortly after 11:30 GMT on Friday.
Members of the public were unable to access any part of the castle grounds following the evacuation.
Lincolnshire Police confirmed the site had since reopened.
In a statement, the force said they had received "a call from a member of the public reporting a threat to public safety in the area".
A spokesperson thanked the public for their patience while investigations took place.
Lincoln Castle confirmed its Lincoln Castle Illuminated event, set to start on Friday, would be going ahead as planned.
