A Wolverhampton school has made improvements in all areas after being told it must do better by inspectors.

SS Mary and John's Catholic Primary Academy has been rated as good after Ofsted inspectors visited on 30 April and 1 May, having been previously being rated as requiring improvement.

A new principal has been recently appointed and already had a positive impact on the school, and pupils were well behaved and enjoyed learning, inspectors found.

Ofsted said the school was good in all areas, including overall effectiveness, the quality of education and leadership and management.

"Leaders have used their thorough analysis of this information about the school’s work, particularly their behaviour and attendance data, to make sensible changes," the report said.

"As a result of what they have put in place, pupils behave extremely well, and the vast majority attend school daily."

The school’s Catholic foundation permeates throughout school life, they said, and teachers were determined that every child would become "a confident and fluent reader".

Pupils who struggled to read were given extra support and staff also used a range of exciting tasks to capture pupils’ interests in lessons.

Two areas were identified for improvement which involved the school ensuring staff developed their expertise to identify the core knowledge they want pupils to learn in each lesson and adaptations to learning to meet the needs of all pupils.

The BBC has contacted the school for comment.
