An inquest has been opened into the death of a man after he was swept away in flood water when a brook breached a road in Shropshire

Trevor David Furniss, 66, was confirmed dead at about 12:40 BST on 20 October after a 90-minute search by the emergency services, Shropshire Coroner's office said.

He was a company director and lived at Furnace Mill, near Cleobury Mortimer.

His body was formally identified by his wife on 30 October.

The emergency services were called to the Mad Brook, Meaton Lane, after reports of a person in the water.

His death came as Storm Babet swept across the UK, battering the West Midlands with rain.

The water was described to the coroner as a "fast-flowing brook".

West Mercia Police said the death was not suspicious.

The inquest is set to resume on 15 February.
