The organisers of a festival of transport have said they are confident it will be back next year to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Fleetwood's Festival of Transport - known as Tram Sunday - started in 1985 and showcases transport including vintage trams and classic cars.

This year's event took place on Sunday, attracting thousands of visitors, despite being cancelled in May because of funding problems.

It was saved by the formation of a new committee of volunteers, including Robert Kane, who said they have "big plans for next year".

He said: "To Fleetwood it's probably the biggest event of the year and it would have been a massive loss had it gone somewhere else, or disappeared altogether.

"It means a lot to the town, and hopefully even bigger and better with more for everybody to see and do."
