A new support group has been launched to help families and friends of people who have cancer.

The monthly sessions have been organised by the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

It said they would be a "space for people to talk, listen and learn in a relaxed and supportive environment".

The hospital said it realised there was a gap in support and hoped families and friends would find the group to be an opportunity to open up and ask questions.

The sessions will take place on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Long Knowle Community Centre.

Jo O’Sullivan, living with and beyond cancer support manager at the trust, said: "We have a lot of families that do not want to ask questions or express their worries in front of their loved ones."

She said some patients had approached hospital staff to say they were worried for their family members.

“We are hoping this group will help them realise they are not alone, and support is available for them," she added.
