Anger over 'eyesore' roadside sign
- Published
More than 100 people have signed a petition opposing plans for an electronic advertising screen alongside a busy road.
Residents in Cheylesmore, Coventry said the 6m (20ft) wide sign, set for the side of the A444, raised concerns over the “spoiling of countryside and issues of highway safety".
But a report to city council planners has said that while it is large, the sign would be in proportion with a nearby bridge and other features in the area.
It recommends the plans be approved when they are considered on 18 July.
Letters from people living nearby described the proposed sign as an “eyesore” and fear it will be “distracting to traffic,” and “detract from the area".
The council report does recommend a range of conditions, including controls on brightness and what it can display.
The sign would also be switched off from 23:00 to 06:00.
This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
