Drink driving arrest after boy, 5, hit by van

A five-year-old boy had been struck by a van and seriously injured, with a man arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

It happened at the junction of Aldgate and Luton Road in Ellesmere Port on Monday afternoon, Cheshire Police said.

The driver of the van was arrested for a range of alleged offences including causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to cooperate with police as well as drink driving, the forced added.

Witnesses or drivers with relevant dashcam footage have been uurged to come forward.

The boy was taken to hospital, police said.
