South Hams District Council (SHDC) has said it will provide funds to refurbish a wooden play galleon in Totnes.

The authority said it would contribute £20,000 towards the renovation of the boat shaped climbing frame at Steamer Quay.

It said "a few weeks" worth of work would take place on the boat at a builders' yard in Falmouth before it was reinstalled at the end of February.

SHDC said when finished, the galleon "will be back, better than ever".

The play equipment, which was originally installed in 2013, received 50% funding from the authority and 50% developer funding for the refurbishment.

SHDC said the area at Steamer Quay would be fenced off during the works, and apologised for any inconvenience.
