A lorry fire that caused sounds of explosions to be heard throughout a Devon town has been extinguished, firefighters have said.

Three fire engines were sent to the fire on the outskirts of Holsworthy at about 07:51 GMT on Sunday, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

The service said one crew from Holsworthy and two from Bude found the lorry well alight and explosions "could be heard throughout town".

It said the blaze was brought under control and prevented from spreading by crews using two jets, four breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and ladders for access.
