A convenience store has been closed down by trading standards officers after selling illegal tobacco and vapes.

La Mirage has been told to shut for six weeks, after the Coventry City Council trading standards department successfully applied for a court order.

The authority said it had issued warnings to the shop, on Earlsdon Street, but the sale of the illicit products continued.

The store will remain closed until 13 January and no-one is allowed to access or remain on the premises during that time.

The council said anyone found to breach the order may be imprisoned, fined or both.

It said the sale of fake tobacco and vaping products can harm legitimate businesses and can also be more hazardous to users as they often contain very high levels of tar and other toxic chemicals.
