Opinions on employment, public services, healthcare, and safety levels on the Isle of Man are being gathered to help shape the government's approach to future policies.

About 3,000 households randomly selected to take part have been asked to complete the 2024 Social Attitudes Survey.

Questions cover issues such as migration, family finances, working patterns and internet access, and asks for views on trust in institutions including the police.

A government spokeswoman said the poll had been changed so that it aligned with similar social surveys in Europe to enable more accurate comparisons with other areas.

The survey was previously conducted annually between 2016 and 2019, but was paused due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Anonymous participation

Respondents have been asked how satisfied they are with state of the economy, health services, education and "the way the government is doing its job".

Views are also being sought on how the island's "cultural life" and economic prospects are affected by people immigrating from other countries.

The poll also aims to gather perspectives on sexuality, religious beliefs and how often participants socialise and see family and friends.

Whether members of the household have been a victim of crime, such as criminal damage, assault, theft or burglary, and if they feel safe walking home alone after dark are among the other areas touched on.

The consultation also aims to learn if the household responding has gone without enough heating, fresh fruit and vegetables, or a cooked main meal because of a shortage of money in the past year.

Views gathered will be anonymised and collated to assess government initiatives and better understand public opinion, a government spokeswoman said.

Those invited to take pat have until 6 September to complete the voluntary questionnaire.
