Fifty homes evacuated after reported gas leak

About 50 homes were evacuated in Jersey on Saturday night after reports of a gas leak.
Emergency services attended the scene at Le Clos Mourant on Le Squez Road in St Clement.
Engineers from Island Energy discovered and vented a pocket of gas in a service duct and have since located and fixed the leak.
Residents are now able to return to their homes after engineers said there have been no readings of gas in the properties for four hours.
Social housing provider Andium Homes said their properties at Le Clos Mourant are newly built and have never had gas fitted.
Residents were looked after at a local community centre nearby before being taken to hotels overnight.
Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said on its Facebook page: "The residual gas pockets have been purged with clean air and no longer pose a risk.
"Island Energy engineers will remain on scene to continue to monitor gas levels over the next couple of days to ensure no further risks are detected."
