Man arrested after reports of shots fired into air

A man has been arrested following reports of shots being fired into the air in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

Armed officers were called to Beacon Drive at about 19:45 on Thursday.

Upon arrival, Nottinghamshire Police arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

No injuries were reported and officers believe it was an isolated incident with "no wider threat to the public".

Det Insp Luke Waller, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We take all reports of firearms incidents extremely seriously and are now working quickly to understand the circumstances surrounding this report."
