The household waste and recycling centre and the green waste site could be closed or have reduced hours this weekend.

The States of Guernsey said the opening hours at Guernsey Waste may be affected as a result of Storm Bert and the forecasted high winds.

Operations manager Sarah Robinson said they would be "monitoring the conditions closely" and would make a decision in the interests of public and staff safety.

She said: “We will provide an update through our social media accounts, website and the traditional media if we have to close, so please check before paying a visit to one of our sites this weekend.”

Jersey Met said there was an orange warning for gale force winds on the Channel Islands.

The forecasters has asked people to remain vigilant and to check the latest forecast.
