The daughter of a 68-year-old woman who went missing from a care home said she was overwhelmed by the support of strangers who helped find her mother.

Teri Page's mum, Sue, who has dementia, returned safely to her care home in Halstead, Essex, on Sunday morning.

An appeal was launched on social media after she was reported missing at about 21:00 BST on Saturday.

"I've not lived in Halstead for that long but people I don't know were out walking, cycling, in their cars, until the early hours of the morning looking for my mum," Ms Page told BBC Essex.

Ms Page, 43, said Sue was doing well and was "oblivious" to what had happened, adding that a GP had confirmed she had come to no harm while she was missing.

"I never imagined the community would be out there searching for her," Ms Page said.

"I was just overwhelmed by everybody's response and how they all pulled together to help."

'Humbling'

She also thanked police officers for working hard overnight to find her mum.

Essex Police said: "The help offered and commitment shown by residents in the town who helped in the search was humbling and we thank everyone who stepped forward."
