A man has pleaded guilty to a number of offences linked to what police described as a night of "horrific violence".

Shots were fired, a car was driven into a home and another was set on fire during the disorder which broke out around Richmond Court in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, on 16 October.

John McElvaney, 32, of Richmond Court, admitted at Teesside Crown Court to dangerous driving, possession of a knife and failing to provide a specimen.

He was remanded in custody during Monday's hearing and will be sentenced on 18 December.

At the time, Cleveland Police said it believed the incidents of "serious violence" were targeted and a number of arrests were made in the days following.

McElvaney pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated vehicle taking, which was accepted by the court.

He was also previously handed a £133 fine for possession of a Class A drug.
