A man has appeared in court charged with 100 child sex offences.

Dylan Matthews, 20, from Walton, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday.

Merseyside Police said he had been charged with 21 child sex offences in August and had now been charged with a further 79 offences relating to multiple victims, including one count of rape and two counts of sexual activity with a child.

He was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday 11 November, police added.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a Liverpool man has been charged with further child sex offences as part of an ongoing investigation."

They said the 100 charges also included two counts of blackmail, 44 counts of causing / inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and 35 counts of sexual communication with a child.

In addition there were 15 counts of making indecent images of a child and one count of possession of indecent images of a child.

Det Sgt Georgia Bevan from the force's Child Criminal and Sexual Exploitation Team said: "I would continue to urge anyone who is a victim of any form of sexual abuse to please report this to police, as our specially trained officers will treat you with sensitivity and compassion.

"We take all such reports extremely seriously, and in addition, work with partner organisations such as Victim Care Merseyside support service and Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (RASA) who are there to support victims of this crime."
