Police are warning people not to fall for courier fraud

People are being warned about a "cruel" courier fraud which has led to an elderly victim losing money from their bank account.

Lancashire Police said the victim, who lives in Blackburn, received a call from a scammer claiming to be from their bank who said there had been a security breach on their account.

They were told to put their bank cards in an envelope and write down their PIN number. The envelope was then collected by someone claiming to be a courier.

The victim's money was then spent or withdrawn by the fraudsters.

The force said it was taking the matter very seriously and an investigation was ongoing to find those responsible.

Officers advised people to "never hand over any item, including cash or bank cards, to anyone that attends your address".

"Police and banking staff would never take bank cards or cash from you," they added.
