A violent burglar has absconded from an open prison in Cheshire.

Colin Williams failed to return to HMP Thorn Cross in Appleton, near Warrington, as scheduled on 30 June, police said.

The 28-year-old was serving a sentence for aggravated burglary and assault.

Williams has links to Warrington, St Helens, Ellesmere Port and North Wales "but could be further afield", Cheshire Police said, and warned people not to approach him.

He has dots tattooed on the knuckles of his left hand and a smiley face tattoo on his lower right arm, the force added.
