A pedestrian who died after he was hit while crossing a road may have been struck by more than one vehicle, police have said.
The man, aged in his 60s, was crossing the A4 Bath Road in Calcot, Berkshire, near to Lidl, when he was struck at about 06:30 GMT on Wednesday. He died at the scene.
Thames Valley Police want to speak to anybody who may have been driving or travelling on the A4 towards the M4 at the time and also urged drivers to check their vehicles and get in touch if they spot any unexplained damage.
The force has urged anybody who may have any information, "no matter how insignificant this may seem", to come forward.
A 41-year-old man from Reading, arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, has been released under investigation.
Sgt Matt Cadmore, from the roads policing unit at Thames Valley Police, said: "It is possible that more than one vehicle may have been involved, but the driver or drivers involved may not have been aware of this, as the incident occurred in hours of darkness.
"My thoughts remain with the family of the man who has died, who are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers at this extremely distressing time."
The road was closed for investigation work between Mill Lane and Hogarth Avenue through most of Wednesday.
