Police searching for thieves who stole two mini diggers on Merseyside have issued an image of one of the vehicles as they appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

One digger is thought to have been taken away on a loader truck from Canal Street in St Helens shortly before 10:00 BST on 13 August.

The second was stolen at about 05:00 BST on Thursday on Lingfield Road in Broadgreen, Liverpool,

Police said two males were seen driving a digger on to a plant trailer attached to a white Mitsubishi pick-up truck which was then driven along Queens Drive and on to the M62 towards Sefton.

Insp Sophie Smith, of Merseyside Police, said: "We believe the thefts were targeted as it was specialised machinery which was stolen and they had the means to be able to transport them away.

"For both thefts I urge people who were in the area to check their dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage to see if they may have captured something which may be vital to the investigation.

"Any information, no matter how small, could be vital."
