Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service's station manager Andy Hichens said: "The crews that arrived from Newquay initially were faced with a fully developed fire on the 4th floor of this building which did later transpire to go through the roof and right through the depths of the building and to the ground floor."

Councillor Joanna Kenny, Liberal Democrat for Newquay Central and Pentire, said: "This is the main entrance to Newquay and it's a decaying complex we need to do something about."

The A3058 Narrowcliff is closed in both directions with Lusty Glaze Road also closed through to Ulalia Road.
