A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Nottinghamshire Police said a man in his 40s was assaulted in Kensington Close at about 13:15 BST on Saturday.

The force previously said he had suffered life-threatening injuries, but, on Tuesday, his condition was described as "serious but stable".

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while a 33-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three remain in custody, the force added.

Det Sgt Nathan Bingham said: "We believe this was an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

"Detectives have been using all the investigative tools at our disposal and neighbourhood teams have also been deployed on additional patrols.

"We're grateful to those who have already provided information but would urge anyone else who can assist to get in touch without delay."
