A council in Surrey has adopted a new air quality action plan (AQAP).

Spelthorne Borough Council's environment and sustainability committee has approved the adoption of the plan which will be in place until 2029.

The plan also includes promoting walking and cycling rather than the use of a vehicle, providing an air quality alert service, supporting a campaign for Spelthorne to join Transport for London's zone six, and working with Heathrow to reduce airport emissions.

The AQAP will be subject to an annual review, appraisal of progress and reporting to the environment and sustainability committee.

The council has a statutory duty to produce an AQAP setting out the action it will take to improve and safeguard air quality within Spelthorne.

The AOAP was revised after a six-week public consultation.
